Volunteers of America, one of the nation’s largest and oldest human service organizations, presented New Orleans newspaper publisher John Georges with the organization’s 2018 Empathy Award in recognition for his efforts to aid the recovery effort following Hurricane Katrina.

Volunteers of America awarded its highest honor – the 2018 Ballington and Maud Booth Award – to New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram in recognition of his work mentoring local children, in particular those with an incarcerated parent.

Old American Golf Club to Host 2018 Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic
LPGA and event officials announced that the Old American Golf Club in The Colony will host the Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic this April 30 – May 6, 2018. The official LPGA tournament will feature 144 of the world’s top talent in a four-day stroke-play event, vying for a $1.3 million purse.

Helping Those Struggling with Moral Injuries
Volunteers of America partnered with the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation to understand and treat the effects of “moral injury” suffered by American veterans and others who have experienced life-changing trauma. The foundation recently invested almost $1 million to help Volunteers of America establish the “Spiritual Resilience Training Program."

The Home Depot Foundation Announces Grant to Provide Veterans Housing
The grant to Volunteers of America Greater New Orleans will help address the critical housing needs of veterans and is part of more than $1.75 million in funding announced for nine Volunteers of America veterans housing programs in eight states. This funding will help improve or build 219 units of housing for veterans, including up to 64 earmarked specifically for women veterans.
